A short history

Wirral, then and now.

The Wirral sits between the estuaries of the Dee and the Mersey. Birkenhead grew fast in the 19th century around its docks and the Cammell Laird shipyard, and Birkenhead Park, opened in 1847, was the first publicly funded park in Britain. Its design influenced Central Park in New York.

In 1888 William Lever began building Port Sunlight to house workers at his soap factory, and the village is now a conservation area. Along the coast, New Brighton, Hoylake and West Kirby grew as resorts, and the Mersey Ferries still link the peninsula with Liverpool.

Cleaning in Wirral

What keeps bins clean here.

Much of the Wirral is coastal, which brings gulls into every bin store with an open lid or a split bag. Seafront cafés and bars in New Brighton and West Kirby are busiest in summer, exactly when bins smell worst. In conservation areas such as Port Sunlight, the appearance of a bin store matters as much as its hygiene.

Gulls are protected

Herring gulls are protected by law, so the practical answer is to remove what attracts them. Clean bins with closed lids give gulls far less reason to visit.

Summer doubles the pressure

Seafront businesses produce more food waste in exactly the months when heat speeds up decay. Many move from fortnightly to weekly cleaning between May and September.

Heritage bin stores

Older buildings often have tight, enclosed bin areas. Regular washing and sanitising stops odours soaking into brickwork that is hard to clean once stained.

Questions

Bin cleaning in Wirral.

Which parts of the Wirral do you cover?

All of it, including Birkenhead, Wallasey, New Brighton, Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, Heswall, Bebington, Port Sunlight and Bromborough.

Can cleaning help with gulls?

Yes. Gulls are drawn by food residue and torn bags. Clean, sanitised bins with lids that close properly make a bin store much less attractive to them.

Do you offer seasonal schedules?

Yes. Many coastal businesses choose weekly cleaning in summer and fortnightly or monthly in winter. We agree this in writing after the site survey.
